Here are 80 newlywed game questions, how the game works, and how to run it for a room full of guests.

How the newlywed game works

One partner leaves the room or puts on headphones. The host asks the other partner a question and writes down their answer. Then the first partner comes back, hears the same question, and has to match it. Swap roles for the next round. A match scores, a miss gets a laugh, and the room keeps score along with you.

The faster version: both partners sit back to back with a whiteboard or two paddles, one with each name. The host reads a question, both answer at once, and the room sees whether they agree.

Where to play it

  • The reception or rehearsal dinner. Ten questions, back to back, after dinner. Keep it to five minutes.
  • A bridal or couples shower. One partner answers on video a week before; the other guesses live.
  • A bachelorette or bachelor party. Friends play against the absent partner's recorded answers.
  • An anniversary party. Long-married couples are the best players. Use the round for older couples below.

Not just for newlyweds: any couple works, engaged or forty years in.

How to keep score

The TV show raised the stakes each round. A simple version for a party:

  • Round one: 5 points a match, ten questions.
  • Round two: swap who answers, 10 points a match.
  • Bonus question: 25 points. Pick the one the room most wants to hear, like who said "I love you" first.

With several couples, play head to head and give the winners a small prize: a bottle of wine, the centrepiece, or first pick of the dessert table.

How to run it with guests

Read aloud. The host reads, the couple answers, and the room votes on whether they will match before the reveal. Works for any size.

Printed sheets. Our free How well do you know the couple quiz takes your own questions and prints a guest sheet plus an answer key, so every table can play along and see who knows you best.

On their phones. On The Invitation and up, a Paper&Seal invitation can carry a quiz about the two of you, with a leaderboard guests can check.

More games

The Bride or Groom game turns the "who is more likely" questions into one printable card. For one partner at a time, see how well do you know the bride and how well do you know the groom, and for a whole afternoon of games, our bridal shower games.
